Action Team: Maternal, Child & Family 

The Maternal, Child & Family Action team focuses on reducing racial disparities in infant mortality by improving Black infant and maternal outcomes in the St. Louis region.  The Maternal, Child & Family Action Team will implement strategies to ensure that communities most impacted by racial inequities are centered in prioritizing issues, designing solutions and making decisions. The Maternal, Child & Family Health Action Team’s strategies will improve perinatal care access and utilization, reduce transportation barriers, develop a network of community-based perinatal services, increase access to healthy housing for moms and families and champion safe sleep efforts.

Generate Health STL is the backbone organization for the Maternal, Child & Family Action Team.

Goal: By 2024, reduce Black infant mortality by 20% to reduce racial disparities in infant mortality between Black and White babies in the St. Louis region from 60% to 48%.

 

Objective 1: By 2024, ensure that those communities most impacted by racial inequities are leading and centered in defining priorities and strategies, designing solutions, and making decisions.

Strategy 1.1: Establish structures for community-led decision making, feedback and accountability.

Objective 2: By 2024, Generate Health and affiliated partners will reduce the impact of social determinants of health (SDOH) on women and infants in the St. Louis region.

Strategy 2.1: Improve the transportation system for women and children.

Strategy 2.2: By 2024, improve healthy, sustainable, and quality housing for moms and families.

Objective 3: By 2024, reduce racial disparities in infant death due to unsafe sleep by 40% in the St. Louis region

Strategy 3.1: Improve safe sleep for babies by ensuring parents have equitable access to a network of portable crib providers.

Strategy 3.2: Ensure that community health professionals and medical providers adopt safe sleep best practices.

Objective 4: By 2024, reduce racial disparities in perinatal care access and utilization by 40% in the St. Louis region.

Strategy 1.1: Improve perinatal care utilization and quality experience.

Strategy 1.2: Develop a coordinated network of quality, equity-centered home and community-based perinatal services and practitioners.
